Our Wedding

It started like all great modern love stories – with a follow on Instagram. But you might get a different version of events depending who you ask…

Jodi’s POV : I had just moved into Recruitment and was stalking every broker in Dubai so when I saw Rob tagged in another brokers story, I slid in. Innocently at first in the hopes of a new hire and a 500-dirham commission. A few months later, every time I got in the lift at Vision Tower Rob just seemed to be there. His timing was a bit too spot on to be a coincidence so I replied to a story to test the waters and see if he may be open to new opportunities. Fast forward a few weeks and after a few too many wines one night, I downloaded a dating app and you can probably guess whose profile showed up first. It was an instant match but after a few messages back &amp; forth, I got busy and stopped replying. That was until 2 weeks later when I bumped into him in the lift again and he cornered me. We went on our first date the next day and have been inseparable ever since. 2 cats, 2 dogs and 4 years later Rob popped the question and it was the easiest yes of my life. And now we can’t wait to share the start of our forever with you all…

Rob’s POV : Jodi double messaged me on Instagram and used to follow me around Spinneys at lunch time. I had only been in Dubai for 6 months and wasn’t looking for a Mrs but she wouldn’t leave me alone so eventually I caved and went on a date. It was going so well until she told me some terrible news. She had 2 cats – I’M SCARED OF CATS. On the way home from the first date she told me if it was going to work, I had to meet them. Next thing I knew I was trapped on the balcony on FaceTime to one of the lads planning my escape. She must have done something right though because the next day I asked to see her again. And again, every day after that. 4 years later I was asking her dad if I could see her every day for the rest of our lives. And now here I am, a cat dad (and dog dad) inviting you all to share the first day of the rest of our lives with us…

Getting to Greece

We recommend flying into Athens International Airport. Athens international airport is approximately a 20-25 minute drive to Glyfada, where the wedding is taking place. We recommend either renting a car or taking a taxi from the airport to your hotel. If you are staying in the city center, there is also the option of taking the metro from the airport to the center of Athens.

Getting to Athens and around 

There are a lot of ways to get around in Athens! There are several taxi options available as well as taxi applications such as FreeNow and Uber which are relatively inexpensive. Alternatively, you can call one of the below numbers to ask for a taxi to be sent to your location. Radio taxi Express: +30 21 0994 3000Radio taxi Glyfada: +30 21 0960 5600 There is also the option to hail a taxi on the street as yellow taxis are available in Athens and can be stopped anywhere. There is also the option of using public transportation to get to the city centre. There are buses available as well as the metro and the tram. The tram stops both in Glyfada and in Voula and goes directly to Syntagma square.The closest metro station to Glyfada and Vouliagmeni is Ellinikon. We would suggest taking a taxi to Ellinikon and then the metro from there to Syntagma.

Where should we stay?

Our wedding is taking place by the sea in the south part of Athens and so we highly recommend staying in the Athens Riviera area (Glyfada, Vouliagmeni)! The Athenian Riviera has great nightlife, amazing restaurants and stunning beaches. As we do not have a single hotel planned for the wedding party, we have made a short list of some hotels in the suggested areas. There are some other amazing hotels that are also great options with good discounts on the room rates - so please feel free to see booking.com and Airbnb too.

THE ACROPOLIS & PARTHENON

The Acropolis is the most iconic landmark of Athens and a must-see for any visitor. Perched high above the city, it offers a stunning view of Athens and is home to the famous Parthenon, a temple dedicated to Athena, the city's patron goddess. It’s an opportunity to walk through ancient Greek history and marvel at classical architecture. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage site. We would suggest that you to the Acropolis in the morning hours so as to avoid the heat.

ACROPOLIS MUSEUM

Located near the Acropolis, this modern museum houses artifacts from the Acropolis itself, offering a deep dive into ancient Greek art and culture.The museum's design allows visitors to see ruins below the glass floor, blending the ancient and the contemporary. It’s also great for a deeper understanding of the significance of the Acropolis

SYNTAGMA SQUARE & CHANGING OF THE GUARD

Syntagma Square is the political heart of Athens, home to the Greek Parliament. The Changing of the Guard ceremony takes place in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which is a tribute to fallen soldiers. The change of the guard takes place every hour on the hour. The ceremony is unique, featuring traditional costumes and synchronized movements. The area is also a great starting point for exploring nearby shops and cafes.

PLAKA & ANAFIOTIKA

The oldest neighborhood in Athens, Plaka is known for its charming cobblestone streets, traditional Greek tavernas, and neoclassical houses. Anafiotika, a small district within Plaka, has Cycladic-style whitewashed houses that give a feel of a Greek island right in the heart of the city. It’s perfect for wandering around, shopping for souvenirs, and enjoying a meal with a view of the Acropolis.

MONASTIRAKI & FLEA MARKET

This vibrant area is known for its bustling flea market, where visitors can find everything from antiques to unique souvenirs. PANATHENAIC STADIUM (KALLIMARMARO)

This all-marble stadium is the site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, though its history dates back to ancient times. It’s the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble, and it offers a fascinating glimpse into Greece’s athletic heritage. Visitors can even run a lap on the track!

STAVROS NIARCHOS FOUNDATION CULTURAL CENTER

This modern architectural masterpiece is home to the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera. It also features beautiful gardens and a stunning view of the Athenian coastline.It’s perfect for those interested in contemporary Greek culture, with events, performances, and exhibitions happening regularly. The center's design, by Renzo Piano, is impressive and a great contrast to ancient sites.

CAPE SOUNION & THE TEMPLE OF POSEIDON

Cape Sounion is located about 70 kilometers southeast of Athens, on the southernmost tip of the Attica Peninsula. It is famous for its stunning clifftop Temple of Poseidon, which dates back to 444–440 BC and overlooks the Aegean Sea. The temple, built to honor Poseidon, the god of the sea, stands as a beacon to sailors returning home. The Temple of Poseidon is one of the most iconic archaeological sites outside of Athens, offering visitors breathtaking panoramic views of the sea and the surrounding coastline. It’s especially famous for its sunsets, where the ruins are bathed in warm golden light as the sun dips into the Aegean. On clear days, you can see several of the nearby islands dotting the horizon. There are also nearby beaches where guests can take a dip in the clear waters, and seaside tavernas offering fresh seafood with a view.
